VP NOLI CITES IMPORTANCE OF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP IN HOUSING
June 18, 2008
Vice President and Housing and Urban Dvelopment Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chairman Noli 'Kabayan' De Castro said strategic partnership between the local government, private sector, beneficiaries and the national government can speed-up the implementation of the socialized housing program.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Rotaryville Family Townhomes in Taguig City recently, De Castro said he is promoting such scheme where there is convergence of efforts because it hastens the completion of any work that has to be done.
Aside from strategic partnerhip, De Castro also cited the importance of trust between the stakeholders which is basically generated by the good governance being practiced by the local government.
De Castro said the housing projects and initiatives of Taguig City are examples of best practices in good urban management and good local governance.
He said stakeholders for the Rotaryville Family Townhomes would not be encouraged in the project if the initiatives of the city do not demonstrate the elements of good governance.
"For this project, the elements of trust and partnership among stakeholders are clearly in place," he said.
Meanwhile, De Castro lauded Taguig City for adopting commendable practices that can be scaled up and duplicated by other local government units.
He said the city has shown it can converge efforts through good governance to pursue a housing program for the poor.
The Rotary Family Townhomes is an in-city housing project by the local government of Taguig, the Rotary Club, the Habitat for Humanity and the national government led by HUDCC for the benefit of informal settlers in the city.
