VP NOLI CITES IMPORTANCE OF CREDIBLE GOV'T EXECS
October 17, 2008
EVEN if the feared recession should prove true, Vice President Noli 'Kabayan' De Castro said there should be no shortage in the Philippines of good, competent and credible public servants.
Speaking during the 7th conference of the Career Executive Service Officers (CESO) in Davao last Wednesday (October 15), De Castro said there should be a surplus of commitment to the betterment of the lives of Filipinos.
"There should be a continuing boom in our collective dedication to the improvement of the ways by which our services are delivered and our resources are managed," De Castro said.
De Castro said earning and nurturing credibility of governing and the government cannot be done by high and elected officials like him as it is the job of everybody in the public service especially the career executive service corps.
In various regional and provinces, De Castro said the career executive service officers are the face and voice of the government.
"This is why the credibility of the government depends so much on your ability to gain the trust of the people," De Castro said.
More than ever, De Castro said public servants need the peoples' trust because it is necessary in preparing measures on how to help the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who might be affected by the global financial crisis.
He said the government needs the peoples' trust in its fight against poverty and homelessness and in keeping sustained peace in every part of the country. The same is true in pushing meaningful livelihood programs of the government, he added.
"More than anybody, you know how to get and nourish the trust of our people which is dependent on our collective credibility as public servants," he said.
