VP KABAYAN STUDENT AWARDS DEADLINE SET
October 17, 2008

THE SCHOOL-level search for the 3rd Vice President Noli de Castro Academic and Exemplary Leadership Awards shall start on Oct. 27 and ends on October 31, 2008, its national search committee announced yesterday.

Lawyer Jesse H. T. Andres, chair of the search panel, advised aspiring candidates for college scholarships under the program to refer to Department of Education Memorandum 355 series of 2008, and to request their respective high school principals to submit their nomination on or before October 24.

School level winners should then be nominated for the division level search on or before November 7.

Andres, also the chief of staff of the vice president, said qualifiers at the division level will be screened and be included in the national finals.

The VP de Castro awards, dubbed “Edukasyon: Sagot sa Hamon ng Kahirapan,” grants college scholarships to deserving public high school students who have excelled in academics and have shown exemplary leadership in school and the community despite difficult challenges and hardships in life.

“We want to recognize the distinct achievement of young Filipinos who have hurdled the obstacles posed by poverty because their triumph is a testament to the great potential of our youth and should serve an as inspiration to others,” Andres said.

Aside from college scholarships, cash and other prizes await the most outstanding public school students who will be chosen from among the thousands who are expected to participate from public high schools from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and Metro Manila.

This year’s awards is the third such undertaking of the Office of the Vice President and the Kabayan Noli de Castro Foundation, in cooperation with Deped. Co-sponsors in this year’s awards are the Rotary Club of Makati West Dist. 3830, JobsDB.com and 88DB.com.
