VP NOLI CALLS ON NBI TO GO AFTER LPG HOARDERS AND PROFITEERS
January 29, 2009
Vice President Noli “Kabayan” De Castro called on the National Bureau of Investigation to inquire into the cause of the apparent Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) shortage, to inspect the premises and to clamp down on hoarders and profiteers.
Those who will be caught hoarding by NBI agents will be facing charges of economic sabotage, De Castro pointed out.
Earlier the Department of Energy and Department of Justice Task Force met Wednesday (January 28) and informed the Vice President that from their monitoring, incidents of overpricing and under-filling were reported. De Castro asked the the public who have been victimized by overpricing to file their complaints immediately with the DOE.
Meanwhile, the Vice President also called on importers, distributors and marketers to cooperate with the on going investigation done by the DOE-DOJ Task Force.
“According to DOE-DOJ Task Force Chief Roy Kyamko, a letter request has already been sent to these LPG players to produce and submit to the task force their import and sales data. From these we will be able to determine whether there is hoarding and they will have to answer to the Task Force if it is proven that they are unduly storing large volumes of LPG,” De Castro said.
De Castro further warned that in case these LPG players fail to comply with the request for data, the Task Force through DOJ will avail of legal coercive measures.
“The consuming public should be protected from overpricing of LPG because this is a very important daily necessity in every household,” De Castro said.
