VP NOLI TIGHTENS WATCH ON ILLEGAL RECRUITERS 8 MORE SUSPECTS FALL
February 8, 2009
EIGHT more suspected illegal recruiters fell in the hands of the Task Force Against Illegal Recruitment (TFAIR) as Vice President Noli ‘Kabayan’ De Castro stepped up the campaign against illegal recruitment.
De Castro, who chairs TFAIR, identified the suspect as Andrea Callejo Sipagan of Culiat, Quezon city, Arsenia Dael Cortez of Tondo, Manila, Estrella Ibanez Lorenzo of Sampaloc, Manila, and Lee Panganiban Alibangbang of Bacoor, Cavite.
Others nabbed were Marivic Concepcion Manvez of Rodriguez Rizal, Francisco Gabor of Sta. Cruz, Manila, Mariano Rolando Santos of San Isidro, Rodriguez, Rizal and Josephine Suba Canon of Nagpayong, Rizal.
All are involved in the operation of Lionlink Resources Services with office at Unit 1, Emerald Circle , Rizal Avenue , Sta. Cruz, Manila , De Castro said.
“True enough, these persons are taking advantage of the country’s unemployment woes and our peoples’ desperate attempts to deal with it. Again, I call on our countrymen especially those severely affected by the employment crisis to be wary of persons offering tempting job opportunities,” he said.
In a report submitted to De Castro, TFAIR operations chief Col. Gilbert Sosa said the suspects were arrested in an operation last February 3, 2009 while in the act of illegally recruiting applicants as overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at the office of Lionlink Resources Services.
Sosa said the arrest was made following the complaint of Alfred Lagmay Corbillion, Arvin Lim Sandan and Karen Daracan Dela Cruz who were promised and offered employment to Canada as factory workers with individual monthly salary of P120,000.
Investigation conducted by the TFAIR showed the suspects were recruiting applicants for overseas jobs despite having no license to do so from the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA).
Confiscated from the suspects were marked money used in the operation, and the voluminous documents needed in what they call ‘processing of travel documents’.
Sosa said TFAIR stepped up its operation versus illegal recruitment in accordance with De Castro’s order to push hard in pinning down those behind the crime.
De Castro earlier warned the public against illegal recruiters who are taking advantage of the looming unemployment problem in the country by offering false job opportunities abroad.
Earlier, Sosa and his men captured four suspected illegal recruiters during an entrapment operation in Ermita, Manila .
The suspects were reportedly responsible for the deployment of OFWs to Lebanon where they were sexually abused and denied of their salaries by their employers.
