VP NOLI URGES DENTISTS TO EXTEND SERVICES TO POOR
September 24, 2009
VICE President Noli 'Kabayan' De Castro urged members of the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) to offer more of their services to the poor and underprivileged.
De Castro made the challenge during the 101st annual convention of PDA in Pasay City yesterday (SEPT. 23), as he cited the fact that services of dentists are sometimes beyond the reach of the ordinary Filipino.
“While you are not to blame for this, I believe you can do something about it. A patient smiles after he completes a treatment session with you. Let’s together put a smile on the faces of more Filipinos.”
Moreover, De Castro said that dentists could become good leaders because they are honest.
"All the dentists I know are honest in saying there is going to be pain the moment they lay their hands on my teeth. They are also truthful in adding that the pain would be short-lived," De Castro pointed out.
In most instances, De Castro said dentists take the time to ask patients what they prefer: a quick painful extraction or endure a lingering pain?
De Castro noted that such honesty and frankness of dentists are the qualities that voters should look for from those who want to run the government.
"We politicians need the moral courage to admit that our nation is headed for rough times. We also need to be brave in telling the people that some solutions to our problems are going to be painful.”
"Most importantly, it must be told that if the people don't endure the painful solutions now, the country's ills will just get worse in the future," he added.
