VP NOLI DISTRIBUTES RELIEF GOODS TO RELOCATEE VICTIMS IN STA. ROSA
September 28, 2009
VICE President and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chairman Noli ‘Kabayan’ De Castro distributed relief goods to 900 families of Southville 4 in Barangay Caingin, Sta. Rosa, Laguna yesterday (September 28).
De Castro also vowed to conduct a medical mission in the resettlement area after finding out that many relocatees including children are getting sick after the onslaught of Typhoon Ondoy.
Typhoon Ondoy battered Luzon and submerged many of its cities, towns and barangays including Caingin where flood was waist-deep high, paralyzing the flow of traffic and cutting the supply of food and power.
It was reported that a man died of asthma attack in Southville 4 after being trapped by flood inside his house. His family immediately received a cash donation from De Castro.
“Our people here need immediate medical attention. We’re conducting a medical mission here on Friday,” De Castro said.
De Castro braved the flooded streets of Caingin leading to the resettlement area where hundreds of evacuees are currently housed in a local elementary school. He immediately handed over the relief goods to the families upon his arrival.
After that, De Castro made a quick inspection of the relocation site as well as an assessment on the damage wrought by the calamity in the area.
“We cannot do anything about the flood here but we are sending medicines and more relief goods right away," De Castro said.
