TRADE AND COMMERCE

9th International Aviation, Maritime and Defense 2005 Exhibit, 26 May 2005

Greetings to everyone!

For special reasons, the staging of the 9th International Aviation, Maritime and Defense Exhibition in the Philippines is a remarkable event.

This occasion gives the Filipino people and the Philippine government the opportunity to express the warmth of hospitality and friendship to the representatives of the different countries participating in this international trade exhibition as well as to members of the foreign press.

More significantly, we have the confidence that you will actively participate in our national program for progress and security and will be our partners in our country's development.

The business and security passwords these days are alliances, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships. I am glad that this is what exhibitions like the 9th International Aviation, Maritime & Defense show is all about.

I see in THE PRODUCTS on exhibition the vital and strategic instruments for unifying our nation, for greater mobility of our people, for better and effective communications and information technology, for infrastructure development and instruments for providing security to do business and investments in this country. This makes your exhibition truly responsive to the needs of our nation. And for that I ask you to give yourselves… a big… big round of applause.

I must say that AMD 2005 has once again proven to be an effective partner of the Departments of National Defense, Transportation and Communications, Interior and Local Government, Trade and Industry, Foreign Affairs and Tourism in making this great enterprise a success.

For example, this international fair displays our national requirements in defense and security capability, now and in the future. Make no mistake about it. These are the key instruments into the road of sustainable development and national survival.

This exhibition has also become an information desk for identifying the ways and means of resolving national security concerns in the future. That is why I am appealing to all concerned to also take active participation in this AMD 2005.

Terrorism has made our problem more complicated and wide. It is for this reason that the airports, seaports and OTHER CRITICAL infrastructures owned and controlled, or operated by the government, as well as those of private sector require close cooperation with the specialist companies represented in this international exhibition.

The proactive and counter-measures against terrorism requires cooperative undertaking and technological component in the market which could be available in AMD 2005 .

Again, I wish to congratulate the organizers and the participants to this 9th International Aviation, Maritime and Defense Exhibition!

Maraming salamat.

Mabuhay tayong lahat!
